It’s in The Details

These charts were made over the course of coaching ensembles and developing repertoire for them. With each new tune, I’d feel a responsibility to check what I “knew” about a tune from my past against what my ears would hear at the present time. Every time, I heard something new. Sometimes it was a small detail, often times it was a major discovery, even running counter to today’s common practice, and those details have been translated to the pages here. It reinforced the value of staying humble about what you think you know and continuing to be enthusiastic about discovering new things.
